With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building accessible reading technology. In this role, you will lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define and enforce best practices for Windows desktop development across the codebase, focusing on code architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. Key responsibilities include: - Leading the full lifecycle of features from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance - Driving accessibility efforts by integrating Windows accessibility APIs (Microsoft UI Automation), ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities - Collaborating with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders on feature planning and roadmap - Identifying and resolving complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems - Mentoring other engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions Required qualifications: 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code; proven track record shipping production-quality desktop applications; strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs; excellent software engineering fundamentals; experience leading technical design and mentoring; strong communication and user-centric mindset. Preferred: automated testing experience, performance optimization expertise, localization/globalization knowledge, familiarity with telemetry and crash reporting, CI/CD pipeline experience, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
