Speechify is a text-to-speech platform used by over 50 million people to convert PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, and websites into audio. The company was named Chrome Extension of the Year by Google and received Apple's 2025 Design Award for Inclusivity. With ~200 employees globally in a fully distributed setting, Speechify is building accessibility-first reading products across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web. In this role, you will lead the design, architecture, and development of native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. You'll define and enforce best practices for Windows development across the codebase, covering architecture, performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility (Windows 10/11+), and maintainability. Key responsibilities include driving accessibility efforts by integrating Microsoft UI Automation and other Windows accessibility frameworks, ensuring keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and usability for users with disabilities. You'll collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and stakeholders to shape feature planning and the Windows platform roadmap. You'll own the full feature lifecycle from conception through design, implementation, testing, release, and maintenance, ensuring quality and consistency. You'll also identify and resolve complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering issues, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural solutions. Required qualifications include 3+ years of Windows desktop application development with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML, plus ideally native Windows code experience (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM). You need deep understanding of Windows application architecture and interop between managed and native code. A proven track record of shipping production-quality desktop applications emphasizing reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability is essential. Strong experience with Windows accessibility APIs and dedication to inclusive software is required. You should have excellent software engineering fundamentals, experience leading technical design and mentoring engineers, and strong communication skills. A user-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive, accessible experiences is critical. Bonus qualifications include experience with automated UI testing, performance optimization for desktop apps, localization/globalization, telemetry and analytics, CI/CD workflows for desktop applications, and demonstrated ability to own feature areas long-term.
