Heidi Health is building AI-powered clinical automation to reduce administrative burden on healthcare providers. The company has achieved product-market fit with a medical scribe product and now processes over 2.5 million patient sessions weekly across 190+ countries. As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in RPA (Robotic Process Automation), you will design and build Heidi's deterministic automation engine for Electronic Health Records (EHRs) that lack native API integrations. This is a code-first role focused on building production-grade automation infrastructure rather than configuring low-code platforms. Key responsibilities include: - Design and maintain the deterministic automation engine for EHR interactions, ensuring patient data safety as a non-negotiable constraint - Build UI-automation flows using accessibility-tree mapping and templated field entry across web and desktop systems - Implement patient-matching and validation logic to ensure data lands on correct records reliably - Prototype with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor) to ship rapidly, then harden into production code - Embed with health systems during live rollouts to map real workflows and close integration gaps - Engineer robust work queues, retries, and exception handling for unattended automation - Harden flows against UI drift and edge cases; collaborate with Product on automation vs. native integration decisions - Instrument runs, measure reliability, and own tooling and documentation for engine extensibility Required qualifications: - Strong ownership mindset and problem-solving skills with proven track record of shipping solutions - Production experience with UI automation (Playwright, FlaUI, or RPA platforms) - Python as primary language; C# or TypeScript as bonus - Deep understanding of deterministic systems: queues, retries, idempotency, exception handling - Comfort with brittle, undocumented, or legacy third-party interfaces - Working fluency with LLM APIs and AI-assisted development - Data and application security knowledge, particularly for patient data handling - Willingness to work directly with customers and field teams during deployments - Experience automating regulated, high-stakes systems (healthcare, payments, banking) is a strong signal This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on building deterministic systems in high-stakes environments and want to directly impact healthcare delivery at scale.
