Speechify is the leading text-to-speech platform, making the world's information accessible through audio. The company is #1 in its category and experiencing exponential growth. We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Core Experiences Team, which builds and maintains the foundational services and SDKs powering Speechify's product across all platforms.
In this role, you'll work at the intersection of product and infrastructure, designing clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that directly enhance user experience. You'll collaborate closely with product teams to scope projects, identify ways to reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration/UX tradeoffs across different platforms. You'll optimize existing functionality—shipping features like faster loading and more intelligent parsing—by designing efficient abstractions and improving algorithms. You'll also ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and jobs using Kotlin.
The ideal candidate brings systems thinking, understanding that optimizing requires end-to-end design with a focus on simplicity. You work quickly to generate ideas and options, knowing what can ship now versus what needs time. You thrive in a high-growth, remote startup environment, balancing focused heads-down work with strategic collaboration. You inspire and negotiate effectively with opinionated designers, marketers, and product managers.
Preferred tech stack includes Kotlin Multiplatform (Java experience acceptable but role is Kotlin-focused) and prior GCP experience is a plus. You'll join an entrepreneurial team that supports risk-taking, intuition, and hustle, with a hands-off management approach. The role offers competitive salaries, a friendly atmosphere, and commitment to asynchronous culture. You'll work on a life-changing product used by millions, directly impacting people with learning differences like dyslexia, ADD, low vision, and autism, at the intersection of AI and audio.
