Shield AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Autonomy Capabilities Team, which develops advanced autonomous systems for defense and aerospace applications. This team is responsible for automating single- and multi-agent teams of platforms across the full command-and-control hierarchy—from low-level control laws and motion planning through high-level tactical behaviors and multi-agent coordination.
The role spans multiple operational domains including air, sea, and space, with exposure to diverse mission sets and platform types. You will work on both fundamental technical challenges (aircraft kinematics/dynamics, trajectory design, optimization, information fusion, efficient algorithms) and software integration concerns (system architecture, protocols, threading, interface management).
As a Senior Engineer, you will be expected to solve complex problems across diverse programs and integration contexts, balancing advanced methodologies (control theory, optimization) with practical implementation. Your solutions will be integrated into real-world platforms with near-term operational impact. This is an individual contributor role emphasizing technical depth, rigorous implementation, and the ability to bridge theory and practice in a fast-moving defense-tech environment.
