Shield AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead autonomous pilot integration efforts for unmanned aircraft systems. This role bridges research and development with real-world deployment, focusing on integrating autonomy software onto unmanned platforms across air, sea, and land domains for Department of Defense applications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deploying and integrating Hivemind autonomy software onto unmanned aircraft platforms (V-BAT, X-BAT, and other systems)
- Preparing autonomous systems for flight testing and operational deployment
- Troubleshooting mission-critical issues in both laboratory and field environments
- Collaborating across hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to solve complex integration challenges
- Conducting hands-on testing and validation in fast-paced, real-world conditions
- Supporting flight operations and ensuring system reliability in demanding environments
The ideal candidate brings strong systems thinking, hands-on technical expertise in autonomous systems or robotics integration, and proven ability to work effectively under pressure in dynamic test environments. Experience with unmanned systems, flight software, or defense applications is highly valued. This is a technical individual contributor role requiring deep problem-solving skills and the ability to operate independently while coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines.
