Airwallex is a unified payments and financial platform serving over 250,000 global businesses. The Infrastructure & Productivity team is pioneering an AI agent ecosystem to automate infrastructure operations across the engineering organization.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Infrastructure AI team, you will design, build, and operate goal-oriented AI agents that automate SRE, DevOps, and DBA workflows across Airwallex's global infrastructure. Rather than performing operations work directly, you'll architect intelligent systems that autonomously handle incident investigation and remediation, infrastructure provisioning, deployment orchestration, database operations, and capacity management.
You will work on Quartermaster, Airwallex's internal agent platform, building domain-specific agents that interact with real infrastructure tooling including Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud APIs (AWS, GCP, Aliyun), databases, and monitoring systems. This requires deep thinking about agent architecture—planning and reasoning loops, tool selection and execution, safety guardrails, human-in-the-loop escalation, and reliability in production environments.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing autonomous agents for infrastructure workflows; architecting robust agent loops with planning, reasoning, tool-use, error recovery, and escalation mechanisms; integrating agents with real infrastructure systems through well-designed tool interfaces; defining and measuring agent effectiveness metrics; collaborating with SRE, DevOps, and platform teams to identify high-value automation opportunities; and contributing to the technical vision for infrastructure AI at Airwallex.
You bring 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in backend languages (Python, Go, Java, or Kotlin). You have practical experience with cloud platforms, container orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD systems. You excel at system design, architecting reliable and scalable systems that interact with production infrastructure. You're motivated by building autonomous systems that fundamentally change how infrastructure work gets done.
