Salary: CAD 130,000 - 180,000 / annual
7shifts is a scheduling and payroll platform serving over 55,000 restaurants. As a Senior Software Developer on the Mid-Market squad, you'll be a founding engineer building foundational systems for restaurant groups managing multiple locations with complex permission structures and rollup visibility needs.
You'll own two major greenfield initiatives: designing and building data structures and pipelines that power rollup reporting for multi-location operators, and architecting a new permissions and authorization system (RBAC) that scales beyond current capabilities. This is not ticket-driven work—you'll shape systems used daily by 1.5 million restaurant workers.
Key responsibilities include: designing data schemas and pipelines from conception through beta delivery; architecting and leading early development on the permissions system, including migration planning; partnering with product to sequence and prioritize workstreams while surfacing tradeoffs; communicating architectural decisions clearly to engineering, data, and leadership; working with AI agents as part of your development workflow; and mentoring teammates to raise technical standards.
You bring 7–10 years of production software experience with deep expertise in data modeling or permissions/authorization systems. You've owned systems end-to-end, turning ambiguous problems into maintainable solutions without waiting for complete specification. You're comfortable in large, evolving codebases, balancing speed, quality, performance, and maintainability against concrete timelines. You communicate clearly across engineering, product, and data teams, with a track record of mentoring and leading technical discussions.
Bonus experience includes hands-on work with data warehousing tools (Snowflake, BigQuery, AWS) and domains where accuracy, reliability, and real-time data are business-critical.
