Salary: USD 137,000 - 160,000 / annual
Chainguard is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to architect and secure its multi-cloud infrastructure (primarily GCP, with AWS and Azure). The role sits at the intersection of cloud security and software supply-chain security, directly supporting the platform that powers Chainguard's hardened open-source builds.
You will report to the Director of Cyber Resiliency and partner closely with Developer Platform and IAM teams to design, harden, and evolve cloud environments that are resilient, well-architected, and built to accelerate secure innovation. Key responsibilities include:
- Architect and maintain secure, resilient, high-performance cloud environments
- Embed security into developer tooling and architecture through hands-on collaboration
- Design and enforce identity and access strategies across all cloud platforms
- Harden cloud infrastructure against emerging threats while maintaining availability
- Build automation, pipelines, and guardrails using Terraform/IaC and Kubernetes
- Secure infrastructure supporting AI-driven pipelines and agentic workflows
- Act as a trusted advisor across engineering, translating security requirements into practical, adoptable designs
- Help set long-term architectural vision for secure cloud scaling
- Adapt architecture and priorities as the company scales
- Assist with incident response investigations
Required qualifications: strong hands-on GCP administrative experience (must-have), solid DevOps background with Terraform/IaC and Kubernetes, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, staff-level experience architecting complex multi-cloud environments, comfort with ambiguity and rapid change, and a track record of designing systems that accelerate engineering velocity without compromising security.
Desirable: AWS/Azure experience, familiarity with software supply chain security concepts (SLSA), experience securing AI/ML infrastructure or agentic workflows, and prior experience at fast-moving or late-stage startups.
