As a Senior Sales Engineer at Datadog, you will be the technical bridge between the sales team and enterprise customers, providing deep technical expertise to help qualify, evaluate, and close complex opportunities. You'll partner closely with the sales organization to articulate Datadog's observability and security platform value proposition, conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations, and guide customers through proof-of-concept (POV) evaluations.
Key responsibilities include owning technical customer engagement during trial phases, identifying and resolving technical concerns to drive successful outcomes, and technically closing deals through advanced competitive knowledge and credibility. You'll deliver product briefings to potential clients, maintain detailed CRM records of customer feedback and competitive intelligence, and serve as a voice to the product team regarding feature prioritization based on customer and market input.
You should be passionate about educating customers on observability risks and their business impact, with the ability to build and execute evaluation plans collaboratively. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential—you must articulate both business value and technical advantages clearly to diverse audiences.
Required qualifications include 3+ years in a Sales Engineering or DevOps Engineering role, hands-on programming/scripting experience with languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, Go, Node.js, PHP, or .NET, and willingness to travel up to 45% of the time to customer sites. You should be comfortable with extended periods of sitting and traveling via auto, train, or air.
