Heron Power is a startup building cutting-edge power electronics for grid modernization, focusing on scalable converters (inverters and rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads to the grid. The company's leadership team brings decades of experience designing and shipping gigawatts of power conversion products.
As the company's first Sales Engineer, you will be the technical bridge between the Sales team and customers, working to translate customer needs into winning solutions built on Heron Link, the company's MVAC-interface power electronics platform, typically paired with energy storage solutions. You'll help shape product concepts, design site-specific solutions, and build the Sales Engineering function from the ground up.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partner with Sales to qualify opportunities and define product concepts around customer needs
- Act as the technical lead with customers on calls, site visits, and design reviews
- Develop site-specific designs covering system sizing, storage configuration, single-lines, and layouts
- Pull together technical proposals, pricing inputs, and responses to RFPs and RFIs
- Bring customer feedback to engineering and product teams to drive continuous improvement
- Build the tools, templates, and processes the Sales Engineering team will scale on
The role offers significant opportunity to grow with the function and shape how Sales Engineering operates at a high-growth startup solving critical infrastructure challenges.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must-have:
- Degree in engineering or technical field; EE, power systems, or power electronics preferred; ME or CS considered
- 1–3 years of hands-on work with energy products (EVs, ESS, power electronics, or utility) in design, test, support, sales engineering, or manufacturing
- Working knowledge of AC power systems, including voltage levels, transformers, and grid interconnection basics
- Ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to both customers and engineers
- Strong modeling and analysis skills, coding language and/or Excel proficiency
- Comfort owning ambiguous problems in a fast-moving startup
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with MV equipment, BESS, or utility-scale solar or storage projects
- Prior customer-facing technical role such as sales engineering, applications engineering, or field support
- Familiarity with interconnection processes, utility requirements, or standards like IEEE 1547 and IEEE 2800
- Experience building proposals, system designs, or single-line diagrams
- Experience at a utility or with distribution system modeling
