ARX Robotics, a European defense tech company specializing in autonomous unmanned systems and sensors, is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to ensure safe deployment, operation, and sustainment of defense systems in real-world environments.
In this role, you will identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks across the full lifecycle—from concept and development through field deployment and mission use. You will work closely with systems engineering, test, human factors, and mission teams to embed safety in design, procedures, training, and operational use.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform operational safety analyses (OHA, SHA, OSA) to identify hazards in real-world and mission scenarios
- Develop and maintain hazard logs, risk assessments, and safety cases for defense systems
- Define and validate operational safety requirements, including procedures, constraints, and mitigations
- Collaborate with system, hardware, and software teams to integrate safety into system design and architecture
- Analyze human-system interaction risks, including operator workload, misuse scenarios, and environmental factors
- Support development of Concept of Operations (ConOps) and safe operating procedures
- Participate in system integration, verification, validation, and field testing
- Interface with safety authorities, certification bodies, and internal stakeholders during reviews and audits
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and field issues; drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of safety processes, standards, and best practices
Required qualifications:
- Master's degree in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 8–10+ years of experience in safety engineering, operational safety, or system safety, preferably in defense, aerospace, or regulated industries
- Strong experience with operational safety analysis methods (OHA, SHA, FMEA, FTA)
- Solid understanding of system safety standards (MIL-STD-882, IEC 61508, ISO 26262)
- Experience developing safety cases and working with hazard tracking systems
- Strong understanding of system architectures and real-world operational constraints
- Experience in field testing, validation, or mission support environments
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary collaboration abilities
