As a Senior Quantum Scientist based in Boulder, CO, you will lead hands-on research and development efforts to advance quantum processor design and performance. This is a hybrid role with flexibility to work remotely a few days per week, involving up to 5% travel. Key responsibilities include: - Prototype and characterize coherent control and cooling schemes for trapped-ion qubits using laser and microwave fields - Calibrate and benchmark quantum systems to achieve ultra-low gate errors and optimize performance across device modules - Validate emerging trap technologies, including integrated electronics and photonics for large-scale quantum architectures - Analyze experimental data, debug complex hardware/software interactions, and ensure reliability of qubit operations - Present research results internally and externally at conferences and in industry collaborations You will work at the forefront of quantum computing research, designing and executing experiments, developing novel control schemes, and pushing the boundaries of system performance. The role focuses on developing functional quantum computers in the NISQ regime while building toward fault-tolerant machines with minimal quantum error correction overhead. IonQ operates globally with offices across North America, Europe, and Asia, and makes quantum computing services available through all major cloud providers.
