The Senior Property Accountant – Institutional provides full-cycle accounting support for the property management team, serving as a key subject matter expert and mentor. This role bridges individual contributor and team leadership responsibilities, functioning as a primary resource for Property Accountants on complex accounting questions and workflow challenges, while acting as backup to the Property Accounting Manager.
Key responsibilities include: serving as subject matter expert and mentor to Property Accountants; responding to client inquiries regarding financial reports and accounting matters; acting as backup manager during absences, overseeing monthly close, distributions, and reporting deadlines; reviewing and quality-checking financial reporting packages for accuracy and GAAP compliance; identifying workflow efficiencies and process improvements; providing daily accounting functions across multiple regions; preparing and distributing monthly financial reports including accrual entries, reconciliations, and bank statements; preparing monthly client distributions; maintaining general ledger accuracy; monitoring cash receipts and tenant billings; reviewing invoice coding for capitalization policy adherence; coordinating with departments on financial package completeness; researching historical transactions for Portfolio Managers and Regional Directors; supporting internal and external audits; researching state accounting regulations; preparing 1099/1096 and quarterly tax forms; and handling ad hoc projects.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent; 3+ years real estate accounting experience; proficiency in Excel and Google Suite; high attention to detail; strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to multitask under pressure; client-focused mindset; and comfort with ambiguity and change. Public accounting experience is highly preferred.
