Checkout.com powers digital payments for over 10 billion transactions yearly, serving companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. The Payment Performance pillar optimizes merchant payment flows for conversion, compliance, and cost. The Issuer Partnerships team collaborates directly with issuing banks to resolve acceptance-rate issues and improve performance through investigations and proactive data sharing. As a Senior Product Engineer on this team, you will design, build, and ship agentic workflows, APIs, and internal tools that productize and scale the value stream. You will own projects from prototype to production, working closely with data scientists, analysts, and engineers across Payment Performance, as well as relationship managers who manage issuer partnerships. Key responsibilities include: designing and building AI-assisted workflows that automate issuer-related performance issue resolution and shift detection from reactive to proactive; building APIs and data services that power issuing bank partnerships, including data-sharing programmes and direct data products; creating monitoring and measurement systems that make team impact and programme performance visible across merchants, countries, and banks; building, deploying, measuring, and iterating on LLM-based applications (agents, knowledge extraction, automation) with focus on adoption and real-world impact; and partnering with data scientists and teams across Fraud, Platform, and Gateway to deliver and scale solutions. Required qualifications: strong software engineering skills in building and integrating APIs and services from prototype to production; proficiency in Python and SQL with strong understanding of data and software development principles in backend or full-stack environments; AI proficiency and hunger to leverage latest technology; excellent communication and stakeholder interaction skills; experience in agile environments delivering high-quality code under tight deadlines; strong problem-solving and ability to work independently and collaboratively; track record of building and shipping software or internal tools, ideally including data-heavy products, automation, or AI applications. Preferred: familiarity with payments industry (acceptance rates, issuing, fraud) or strong appetite to learn quickly; experience with cloud and infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes, Prometheus); database experience (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis); frontend or dashboarding experience (React, Streamlit) for internal interfaces. Checkout.com operates a hybrid model with three days per week in-office in London to support collaboration. The company emphasizes ownership, fewer blockers, meaningful work from day one, and recognition for impact delivered.
