Ping Identity is seeking a Senior Performance Engineer to independently plan and execute performance engineering activities for large-scale identity services running in cloud-native environments. This is a horizontal role working across product engineering, cloud/SRE, and customer-facing teams to assess scalability and reliability, identify and resolve performance risks, investigate bottlenecks, and improve performance readiness across complex end-to-end flows.
Key responsibilities include defining and executing performance testing strategies for Identity Management products; planning and executing holistic system-level load, scalability, endurance, stress, reliability, regression, baseline, and benchmark tests; defining meaningful performance metrics and communicating findings to engineering, cloud/SRE, product, and customer-facing stakeholders; analyzing performance results and performing root-cause analysis on performance and reliability issues across multiple product components; coordinating with engineering teams to implement and verify fixes; performing Java application profiling, stack tuning, memory analysis, and optimization; determining optimal configurations for performance and capacity planning; improving performance-test automation and continuous-integration workflows; maintaining documentation on performance test methods, results, and tuning guidance; owning performance responsibilities for assigned product components across the development lifecycle; participating in customer engagements and technical escalations; providing technical leadership on performance initiatives and mentoring engineers; and evaluating relevant tools, frameworks, and technologies.
Required qualifications include proven experience developing and executing various types of performance tests; planning and executing performance testing from a holistic system perspective with minimal supervision; troubleshooting and performing root-cause analysis on end-to-end performance issues; strong experience with modern load-generation, measurement, observability, monitoring, and profiling tools; ability to write performance tests in Python, Java, Scala, Go, or comparable languages; experience performance-testing LDAP, Java, web, and distributed applications in cloud or hybrid deployments; experience troubleshooting end-to-end environment and configuration issues including load balancing; experience with Java stack tuning, profiling, debugging, and optimization; proficiency with JVM internals related to performance tuning, garbage collection, and memory management; and solid grounding in modern software engineering practices and automation.
