PhotoRoom is a Y Combinator-backed visual solution for e-commerce, founded in 2019 and now serving 300+ million users worldwide. The company processes over 5 billion images annually and counts Amazon, DoorDash, and Decathlon among its enterprise customers. With 100+ employees across multiple offices, PhotoRoom is scaling rapidly and seeking a Senior People Operations Manager to own and systematize the People function across all markets.
You will be the first dedicated owner of a comprehensive People Operations scope that has previously been distributed across a small generalist team. Reporting to the VP People, this is a senior individual contributor role (no direct reports) with significant autonomy and impact.
Key responsibilities include:
**Payroll & Compliance**: Own monthly payroll for France and European populations, plus twice-monthly US payroll. Manage relationships with external payroll, EOR, and employment providers. Maintain French statutory obligations, HR compliance calendars, employee records, social declarations, and DUERP requirements. Administer the CSE (works council) including convocations, agendas, meeting prep, and budget administration. Monitor employment law developments and coordinate compliance across European and US setups.
**Contracts & Documentation**: Manage employment contracts, amendments, offer letters, attestations, and HR letters. Build and maintain templates as the organization evolves. Establish clear service levels for recurring People Ops requests and create practical playbooks that employees and managers can actually use.
**Employee Lifecycle**: Oversee onboarding from offer signature through day one, coordinating payroll, benefits, declarations, IT access, and equipment. Handle offboarding and exit administration. Manage promotions, compensation changes, employment changes, contract amendments, leaves, parental leave, and other employee transitions. Administer immigration and visa processes.
**Benefits & Compensation**: Administer benefits and manage providers across France, Europe, and the US. Run annual renewals with Finance and VP People. Support compensation benchmarking and salary band maintenance.
**HRIS & Automation**: Own the reliability and evolution of People systems (currently Hibob). Configure HRIS, manage permissions, workflows, integrations, and data quality. Make HRIS the reliable source of truth. Assess opportunities to consolidate or improve the HR technology stack. Automate repetitive workflows to improve speed and reliability.
**Employee Support**: Build documentation, workflows, and self-service infrastructure so employees can solve standard requests independently. Handle exceptions and escalations requiring expertise.
The role is about more than running existing processes—you will build workflows, automation, and documentation that allow PhotoRoom to scale without unnecessary complexity. As an AI-native company, PhotoRoom expects you to actively use automation and AI to improve speed, reliability, and employee experience while maintaining high standards for privacy, compliance, and trust.
**Requirements:**
- Hands-on experience owning a meaningful People Operations scope in a fast-moving company of 100+ employees
- Hands-on experience with French payroll and employment compliance (required)
- Experience owning People Operations processes, workflows, and controls
- HRIS experience; Hibob is a plus, but experience configuring and improving comparable systems is what matters
- Systems mindset and strong instinct for automation
- Excellent operational judgment; ability to know which issues to solve independently and which require specialist advice
- High standards of accuracy, discretion, and follow-through
- Comfort operating independently in a small team where you design and run processes
- Fluent French and English (English is the working language; French payroll and employment law environment is significant)
- Based in Paris; able to work from the office at least three days per week
