Carbon is seeking a Senior People Operations Specialist to manage the administration of benefits, leaves, immigration, and compliance programs with meticulous execution and high-touch employee support. This role serves as a point of escalation for complex, sensitive employee inquiries and manages day-to-day vendor relationships. Core responsibilities include administering benefits programs (401(k), global benefits) and managing vendor, broker, and carrier relationships. You will process workers' compensation claims and manage leaves of absence in compliance with FMLA, ADA, and applicable state leave laws (including CFRA). The role requires serving as the primary liaison between outside immigration counsel, employees, and hiring managers—coordinating case intake and documentation, tracking status and key deadlines (visa expirations, extensions, PERM/green card filings), translating counsel guidance into clear next steps, and maintaining accurate, confidential case records. Additional responsibilities include assisting in coordinating employee well-being programs, administering compliance-related training (e.g., anti-harassment), administering the employee recognition program (processing awards and redemptions, managing the platform and user access, coordinating with vendors), and resolving complex, sensitive employee questions across benefits and people operations. You will advise and guide employees and less experienced colleagues on difficult matters, adapting communication style to different audiences, and support HR system administration (Workday) to ensure data integrity and effective system usage. Required qualifications: 5+ years of related experience in benefits administration, leave management, and vendor relations with a bachelor's degree (or 3+ years with a master's degree, or equivalent experience). You must have complete knowledge of the discipline, working knowledge of global benefits, workers' compensation, and immigration compliance, and experience with Workday or comparable HRIS. Strong communication skills, ability to work independently, and sound judgment in problem-solving are essential. Preferred qualifications include benefits or HR certification (CEBS, PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP), experience with leave and claims administrators (e.g., Cocoon) and benefits brokers, and experience supporting a multi-country or globally distributed workforce (primarily US, with employees in UK, Germany, Japan, and Mexico). The position is based in Sunnyvale, CA with a minimum of 4 days in office (Monday–Friday preferred). This role is not eligible for relocation or current visa sponsorship.
