As Senior Payroll Manager for APAC, you will lead operational excellence of Xero's payroll function across Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, reporting to the GM of Payroll. You'll manage a diverse team of payroll professionals based in Melbourne and New Zealand, fostering a culture of coaching, empowerment, and psychological safety.
Key responsibilities include stabilizing and refining the recently implemented Ramco payroll system to eliminate issues and improve process effectiveness. You'll prepare systems and people for legislative transitions including 'payday super' and evolving Fair Work and ATO requirements. A major focus is implementing automated integration solutions—potentially leveraging AI—to streamline data flow between Workday and payroll engines, moving the team away from manual data entry toward sophisticated validation models.
You'll enhance process documentation and issue registers to drive maturity and reduce operational bottlenecks. This role acts as a critical partner to People Experience and Finance teams, ensuring the end-to-end employee journey is supported by timely and accurate information.
Required qualifications include deep understanding of Australian payroll legislation (Fair Work rules, long service leave, superannuation), natural ability to lead and coach other leaders with human-centric management focus, and a mindset geared toward automation and systems integration. You should have experience navigating fast-paced global organizations, ideally within SaaS or technology sectors, with strong communication skills to distill complex payroll/tax information into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders. Partnership and collaboration across Finance and People teams are essential.
