Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Network Software Engineer I to join the Space Systems team in Long Beach, CA. This role focuses on developing and managing software for space-to-space communications, space-to-ground communications, payload software, and data security systems across Rocket Lab's constellation of spacecraft.
You will manage the software development and integration of routers, radios, and laser communication devices on spacecraft. Key responsibilities include managing suppliers and subcontractors, interfacing with internal engineering teams and external partners to develop product plans and meet milestones, designing simulation and test approaches for constellation networking, and defining KPIs for contractor and internal teams. You'll set the cadence for feature releases, develop staffing plans with leadership, plan major integration points and testing between teams, and drive best practices for feedback and continuous improvement.
Additionally, you will develop and maintain software development standards and procedures to ensure all deliverables meet the highest quality standards and customer requirements. The role reports to the Head of Flight Software.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical discipline, with 5+ years of relevant industry experience. You must have comprehensive knowledge of network software, understanding of the software development lifecycle, experience with Jira, and familiarity with systems engineering methods including systems trades, requirements management, performance characterization, and interface management. An active Secret security clearance with eligibility to obtain TS/SCI is required, along with U.S. citizenship.
Desirable qualifications include a Master's degree in aerospace, computer science, or electrical engineering; active TS/SCI clearance; experience with SDA NEBULA architectures; cybersecurity controls and encryption experience; experience leading teams using agile methodologies; project management certifications (PMP, APMP); and proficiency with project and engineering management tools.
