Nory is a restaurant management system that uses real-time data, machine learning, and autonomous agents to help operators control margins, reduce waste, and improve profitability. Fresh off a Series B led by Kinnevik, the company has grown to over 100 people across Ireland, the UK, Spain, and New York.
You'll be Nory's first dedicated Senior Mobile Engineer, joining the Platform team to rebuild the mobile app from scratch. The Nory Team app is how restaurant staff clock in, check shifts, book leave, and get paid. The core challenge is reliability: these apps run in basements with poor signal, on low-spec phones, for users who often speak English as a second language. A failed clock-in means a missed shift or paycheck, so it must work every time.
You'll own the mobile platform end-to-end: assess the current state, set architecture, plan migration, and ship an MVP in one to two quarters, then grow it into a platform for the broader engineering team. Key responsibilities include building for real-world constraints (patchy connectivity, 2GB RAM devices, iOS 16+, Android 12+), owning native-only features (push notifications, camera scanning, geolocation), making product and UX decisions independently, setting up a design system for AI agents to work in parallel, and establishing quality standards for the mobile codebase.
The tech stack includes React Native, Capacitor, Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Node.js, AWS (Fargate, Aurora, SQS), Postgres, MongoDB, and Docker. You'll work closely with product, design, and engineers across the business in a cross-functional squad with high autonomy.
Required: deep React Native experience shipping production apps in TypeScript, comfort across the full stack, experience building native features (push notifications, camera, geolocation), ability to read and extend FastAPI services, and familiarity with React web when needed. You should have shipped apps with real usage (tens of thousands of daily actions), care deeply about product and UX with specific examples of decisions you've influenced, build with AI while maintaining high standards, and have experience with greenfield builds or major migrations.
