Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the design and development of superconducting cable magnets for the SPARC fusion power plant. This is a hands-on engineering role spanning the full lifecycle from early concept through manufacturing and installation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis using both hand calculations and finite element methods (FEM)
- Develop and own hardware designs from concept through SPARC delivery
- Create design notes, technical specifications, assembly procedures, and manufacturing documentation
- Support procurement activities including preparation and execution of manufacturing contracts
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges
You will work on critical superconducting magnet systems that are central to Commonwealth Fusion Systems' mission to deliver commercially viable fusion energy. The role requires deep technical expertise in mechanical engineering, materials science, and systems integration, combined with the ability to translate complex physics and engineering concepts into manufacturable designs.
