Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Materials and Process Engineer to join the Rocket Motor Systems (RMS) team in Costa Mesa, California. This is a foundational role establishing materials and process infrastructure for solid rocket motor systems as the company scales from prototype development to high-rate production. You will serve as a subject matter expert for materials, processes, and specifications across the full spectrum of rocket motor systems including propellants, motor cases, thermal protection systems, nozzles, and energetic components. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining material specifications for raw materials and assemblies containing polymeric constituents; creating process specifications for manufacturing operations such as propellant processing, ablative component manufacturing, and heat treatment; and developing standard acceptance test procedures and NDI technique sheets for incoming materials and finished hardware. You will review and standardize existing work instructions into formal, configuration-controlled specifications with clearly defined process windows and acceptance criteria. As the polymeric materials expert, you will lead materials characterization programs including mechanical testing, thermal analysis, rheology, cure kinetics, and ablation performance evaluation, developing design allowables per industry standards (CMH-17, JANNAF). Additional responsibilities include providing materials and process expertise to Design and Manufacturing teams, driving material and process qualifications from development through production readiness, managing supplier technical relationships, leading failure investigations and root cause analyses, and mentoring junior engineers. You will interface across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to translate mission requirements into robust solutions, and drive cost reduction and cycle time improvement initiatives. The role is based in Costa Mesa with up to 50% travel to RMS sites in Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama, and other locations. This position requires deep technical expertise in aerospace materials, strong documentation and standardization skills, and the ability to build engineering infrastructure in a fast-moving organization.
