Kin Insurance is seeking a Senior Manager of Internal Controls to lead the company's Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and Model Audit Rule (MAR) readiness programs. This is a high-impact role with significant opportunity to define and mature Kin's internal control environment as the company grows, launches new products, and navigates an evolving regulatory landscape.
You will own governance, technical direction, and quality oversight across all internal control initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading SOX and MAR compliance programs end-to-end: owning the annual internal control audit plan and readiness roadmap, overseeing consultant-led testing, managing remediation, and preparing management for SOX Sections 302 and 404.
- Directing external consulting partners through control testing by defining scope, methodology, standards, and timelines; coordinating walkthroughs and evidence requests; reviewing partner work; and maintaining integrated project plans and readiness dashboards.
- Owning the GRC platform (Workiva) implementation as business owner, defining program requirements, data standards, workflows, and reporting while driving adoption toward a more automated control environment.
- Partnering with IT and security to assess IT General Controls (ITGCs), including access management, change management, and IT operations.
- Creating clear, timely reporting on control testing status and results for control owners, senior leadership, and the Audit Committee.
- Serving as primary point of contact on internal controls for external auditors, consulting partners, and regulators.
- Coaching control owners on internal control requirements and building practical remediation plans.
- Advising business leaders early in product, system, and process development to identify emerging risks before they become control gaps.
- Identifying opportunities to use analytics, automation, and AI to improve control monitoring, testing, evidence management, and reporting.
First-year success metrics include: Workiva fully implemented and actively used for control testing; control owners completing remediation work; 2027 audit plan created and communicated; and Kin achieving MAR readiness to support carrier premium growth.
