Built is an AI-powered platform transforming real estate finance and construction management. The company powers over $300 billion in annual capital for 340+ lenders, including 45 of the top 100 U.S. banks. Built's software governs how capital moves through construction projects via AI-driven draw management, portfolio risk tools, compliance workflows, and banking integrations.
The Marketplace team is expanding Built beyond workflow software into adjacent services—inspections, appraisals, insurance, materials sourcing—moving fast to stand up new products with real customers, build durable platform infrastructure, and optimize existing offerings.
As Senior Innovation Engineer, you'll contribute across three core areas: designing and building platform primitives (purchase orders, contract terms, invoicing, workflow orchestration using Temporal); shipping new product prototypes and MVPs directly with customers, iterating weekly on feedback; and supporting adoption and optimization of launched products. You'll also work on AI-native development—building agent harnesses and LLM-integrated workflows for document extraction and reasoning using Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI, with internal eval tooling to validate quality.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role (not people management), though you'll mentor newer engineers as you grow. You'll participate in customer discovery, partner with staff engineers on system design, and help identify friction in team workflows. The team is tight-knit, experienced, and collaborative with strong mentorship culture.
You'll typically own well-scoped pieces of work with support from staff engineers and your manager, rather than driving entire initiatives solo. The role demands precision, reliability, and performance—the engineering bar is high because decisions have direct financial consequences.
