Bankjoy, a Y Combinator and Bessemer Venture Partner-backed fintech startup, is seeking a Senior HR Manager to serve as the primary HR operator for the organization. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role reporting to the COO, not a strategic advisory position. You will own HR operations end-to-end, including onboarding and offboarding for US and Canadian employees and contractors using Rippling as the system of record. Responsibilities include maintaining employee records and org charts, managing benefits administration across both countries, handling basic IT support tasks (password resets, device setup, Google Workspace access), and owning SOC II HR security policy compliance for annual audits. In performance management, you will administer review cycles using Lattice, provide hands-on coaching to managers on setting expectations and conducting accountability conversations, support performance improvement plans, and serve as an early warning system for escalating performance concerns. You will deliver practical manager training sessions on setting expectations, accountability conversations, hiring, and retention, tracking behavior change and reporting outcomes monthly. You'll maintain and enforce HR policies, serve as the first point of contact for employee relations matters, ensure legal compliance, and keep the Employee Handbook current. You will manage HR systems including Rippling workflows and automations, Lattice for performance tracking, and Ashby for recruiting coordination. You'll prepare compensation recommendations with market benchmarks and internal equity checks, and administer annual compensation reviews and benefits renewals. The ideal candidate has 5–8 years of hands-on HR experience in a startup or scaleup environment where you owned multiple functions simultaneously. You are genuinely hands-on by nature, finding satisfaction in executing work well rather than delegating. You have strong working knowledge of Canada and US employment law basics for distributed workforces and proven experience with difficult performance management conversations.
