Brex is seeking a People Business Partner for Employee Relations & Performance to join their Seattle office on a hybrid basis (minimum 3 days/week in-office: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday). This role is central to building and scaling Brex's high-performance culture.
You will partner with front-line managers to ensure consistent, fair, and rigorous performance management across the organization. Key responsibilities include coaching managers on setting clear expectations, delivering effective feedback, and taking appropriate action on performance outcomes. You'll serve as the first point of contact for manager questions on performance-related cases and processes, building resources such as coaching templates, toolkits, and training to strengthen manager effectiveness.
You will run and document employee investigations end-to-end, escalating themes and risks to senior People Business Partners and Legal as needed. You'll provide guidance and operational support on employee terminations, ensuring consistency across the company. Additionally, you'll own operational logistics for promotion and performance check-in calibrations, and partner with People Partners and Workplace Experience on return-to-office audits.
The ideal candidate brings 5–8 years of HR experience in high-growth organizations, with demonstrated expertise running employee investigations end-to-end and supporting or executing employee terminations. You should have a strong understanding of performance management practices in high-performance cultures, proven ability to build trusted relationships with managers and influence outcomes, and strong organizational skills to manage multiple workstreams. Clear communication (written and verbal), discretion with sensitive information, and sound judgment are essential.
Bonus qualifications include experience supporting customer-facing or fast-scaling teams, familiarity with performance management systems (e.g., Lattice) or HRIS tools (e.g., Workday), experience with manager enablement or training programs, and a strong interest in building scalable People processes and improving operational efficiency.
Success in this role means managers consistently uphold Brex's high bar for performance, performance processes run smoothly with strong logistics support, risks are surfaced early with thoughtful escalation, and you are recognized as a trusted, solutions-oriented partner. Over time, you will build the skills and scope to grow into a client-facing People Business Partner or Employee Relations leadership role.
