As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer (backend-heavy), you'll join a cross-functional team delivering meaningful outcomes for learners and tutors. The role is approximately 60% backend (Python/Django) and 40% frontend (React/TypeScript), with a strong emphasis on technical leadership and AI expertise.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and own backend features using Python/Django; design and troubleshoot third-party integrations
- Develop and evolve frontend experiences in React/TypeScript, contributing to experimentation frameworks
- Lead complex initiatives from discovery through deployment, balancing immediate product needs with long-term sustainability
- Drive engineering excellence through mentorship, architectural reviews, and best-practice adoption
- Partner with Product, Data, and UX teams to identify opportunities, validate hypotheses, and maximize customer value through experimentation
- Shape architectural direction for complex systems, improving scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer productivity
- Navigate ambiguity, evaluate trade-offs, and align technical investments with business objectives
- Influence technical direction beyond your immediate scope, collaborating across teams
- Continuously raise quality standards through craftsmanship, curiosity, and commitment to helping others grow
Required qualifications:
- Deep, hands-on expertise in Agentic AI; ability to redesign how the team builds software across the full SDLC, not just code generation
- Experience designing and evolving large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, distributed systems, high-volume data flows, and scalable architectural patterns
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical decisions, drive engineering best practices, and contribute to architectural direction
- Strong product mindset; ability to translate ambiguous business challenges into scalable technical solutions using experimentation and data
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and independently solving complex technical and product challenges
- Ownership and accountability mindset
Preply ships 50–60 times per day with a solid CI/CD setup and a culture that values action over ceremony. The company has 90%+ adoption of AI coding tools across engineering and is moving toward AI-augmented development at scale. Engineers have direct access to the best tools and freedom to experiment. Tech-agnostic hiring: experience with Java/Spring, Node.js, Ruby on Rails, Scala/Play, PHP, or Go is equally valued.
