K2 Space is building the largest and highest-power satellites ever flown, backed by $450M in funding from leading investors including Altimeter Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and others. The company is mass-producing next-generation satellite platforms designed to operate across LEO to deep space, capitalizing on the shift from mass-constrained to mass-abundant launch vehicles.
As a Senior FPGA Prototyping Engineer, you will own the complete silicon lifecycle from pre-silicon FPGA prototyping through post-silicon bring-up and validation. You'll serve as the critical bridge between ASIC design, firmware, software, and system integration teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing FPGA-based prototypes to enable early ASIC integration and hardware/software co-development
- Building hardware platforms that allow firmware and software teams to develop before first silicon arrives
- Supporting first-silicon bring-up, debug, and functional validation
- Developing automated validation infrastructure for silicon characterization and regression testing
- Configuring and validating high-speed digital interfaces (Ethernet SerDes, SPI, UART, GPIO)
- Creating FPGA-based traffic generators, protocol checkers, and test applications
- Debugging issues spanning RTL, firmware, software, FPGA prototypes, and silicon using simulation and lab instrumentation
- Collaborating with ASIC Design, Verification, Firmware, Software, Systems, and DFT teams
Required qualifications:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of FPGA development with Verilog/SystemVerilog and AMD/Xilinx tools
- Strong understanding of ASIC development and digital system architecture
- Experience with FPGA prototyping for ASIC development
- Firmware/software enablement and hardware bring-up experience
- Hardware debugging skills (JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers)
- Python and scripting proficiency for automation
Nice-to-have skills include networking/communications/satellite systems experience, embedded processors (ARM/RISC-V), hard real-time systems, high-speed interface validation, and silicon bring-up expertise.
