Nearmap, an Australian global technology company and market leader in virtual modeling of the real world, is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join their finance team in Sydney.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, you will own financial accounting for Nearmap's global Technology, Engineering, Product, and GCO divisions. This is a hands-on senior role combining technical accounting expertise with team leadership and strategic business partnership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the month-end close process for global divisions, including accruals, balance sheet reconciliations in FloQast, and strict adherence to month-end timetables
- Maintain the Group's consolidated Fixed Asset Register, managing capitalization, depreciation, and disposals
- Review divisional P&L results and provide meaningful variance analysis to support monthly sign-off
- Process and review global vendor bills, purchase orders, credit card statements, and expense reports for accuracy and timeliness
- Review lease agreements and maintain lease schedules in compliance with IFRS 16; reconcile intercompany transactions
- Review and lodge BAS, FBT, PAYG instalments, and payroll tax returns accurately and on time
- Contribute to annual financial reporting, audit processes, budgeting, and forecasting with trend analysis
- Drive finance systems projects (NetSuite, FloQast, Concur) and lead process improvements and automation initiatives
- Mentor and support the development of direct reports and junior team members
You will partner closely with Global Business Partners to ensure financial data accuracy and deliver meaningful insights that help track performance and keep the business aligned.
Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification in accounting, business, or commerce, with CPA or CA qualification (or close to completion)
- 5+ years' experience in an accounting role, including supervising or mentoring team members
- Strong technical accounting skills, with knowledge of IFRS 16 leases, multi-currency accounting, intercompany transactions, transfer pricing, or acquisition accounting (viewed favorably)
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience with mid-to-large accounting systems such as NetSuite and Concur
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain financial and compliance requirements to non-finance stakeholders
- Excellent time management and strong problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering to deadlines
