Salary: USD 120,000 - 140,000 / annual
Ultima Genomics is a well-funded life sciences technology company developing groundbreaking genomics sequencing technologies. The company has raised approximately $600 million and is building a team of diverse experts across healthcare, engineering, software, and biotechnology.
As a Senior Field Application Scientist, you will be the technical bridge between Ultima's innovative sequencing platform and its customers. Your primary responsibilities include empowering customers to maximize the potential of the technology through expert guidance on application development, delivering comprehensive training on processes, kits, and instrumentation, and leading troubleshooting efforts in collaboration with internal teams.
You will own the customer experience by documenting, resolving, and escalating technical issues promptly while ensuring high satisfaction. Working closely with the sales team, you'll provide technical and market guidance throughout the customer journey, including designing and executing pilot experiments that drive technology adoption. You'll also collaborate cross-functionally with sales and marketing to develop compelling product demonstrations and technical content.
This role requires representing Ultima at customer sites and scientific conferences as a technical ambassador. You'll need hands-on expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows, including sample handling, quality control, and optimization across diverse input types. The position is fully remote with a preference for East Coast locations and requires up to 50% travel, including field support, customer meetings, and conference participation. You should reside within one to two hours of a major airport.
Required qualifications include a degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field with extensive laboratory experience. Minimum experience: BS with 8+ years, MS with 5+ years, or Ph.D. with 3+ years in relevant areas. You must have demonstrated experience teaching, training, or mentoring peers or customers, excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to operate with urgency and ownership in a fast-moving startup environment.
