As Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead a full-stack product pod within the New Hiring Experience organization, managing backend, frontend, iOS, and Android engineers. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Applied Science, and Data Science to define technical and product strategy, then drive execution against team goals and OKRs.
Key responsibilities include: defining and evolving technical vision in partnership with cross-functional leaders; collaborating across the company (Trust & Safety, Monetization, etc.) to resolve dependencies and drive initiatives; guiding the team through complex technical tradeoffs while maintaining high-quality outcomes; hiring, coaching, and developing engineers at all levels, including Staff+ engineers; building a culture of excellence and accountability; maintaining and scaling team-owned infrastructure; and contributing to Thumbtack's broader engineering culture and practices.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role within the company. The team has already built conviction through research and market testing, and is now piloting with a small group of professionals—meaning you're joining an area with momentum and clear strategic direction, while still having substantial opportunity to shape product and technical decisions.
Required: 2+ years engineering management experience, 5+ years building software at scale, experience partnering with Product/Design/Applied Science/Data Science on strategy, strong technical judgment for architectural tradeoffs, experience leading senior engineers and building high-performing teams, cross-functional communication and influence skills, and familiarity with experimentation, A/B testing, and metrics-driven decision-making.
