KoBold Metals is a scientific mineral exploration and mine development company focused on turning mineral exploration into a repeatable science using AI, human intelligence, and new technology. The company made its first major discovery—Mingomba, one of the world's largest undeveloped high-grade copper deposits in Zambia—and is now developing it into a world-class mining operation. The Senior Engineering & Integration Manager is the primary technical authority for the Mingomba copper project through its design and construction phases. Reporting to the Project Director, this role carries end-to-end accountability for the quality, integrity, and integration of all engineering across KoBold's owner team, the EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) contractor, and specialist contractors. Key responsibilities include: **Technical Authority & Design Governance:** - Hold and exercise design authority on behalf of KoBold, making binding technical decisions across all disciplines with clear escalation to the Project Director for schedule, cost, or safety impacts - Establish basis of design, engineering standards, and design criteria; enforce them with both the owner's team and EPCM - Own the technical risk register: identify, quantify, and drive resolution of engineering risks before they become scope changes or construction rework - Approve key engineering deliverables including P&IDs, design criteria, equipment datasheets, and technical specifications - Direct the scope freeze process to prevent scope growth after sanction **EPCM Direction & Performance Management:** - Act as KoBold's senior technical interface to the EPCM, actively directing engineering scope, priorities, and performance - Technically direct (not just administer) the EPCM while maintaining KoBold's design authority - Ensure the design is constructability-reviewed, value-engineered, and operability-tested before freezing - Ensure the project passes independent technical assurance reviews and stage-gate approvals without material qualification The role exists to prevent common capital project failure modes: scope creep from unresolved technical decisions, design quality issues that don't survive construction, and owner teams unable to effectively challenge or govern engineering service providers. Success is measured by engineering delivered on time, within sanction cost, and to the standard required for safe, operable, and maintainable facilities.
