OpenAI's Global Employee Relations and People Standards team is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Partner to support the company's most complex and high-impact people challenges. This role focuses on non-investigative employee relations work, including conflict resolution, high-risk performance management, sensitive employee exits, and navigating nuanced workplace dynamics that require strategic, tailored solutions.
You will advise and guide managers, HRBPs, and cross-functional partners through complex or high-risk employee situations, bringing emotional intelligence and principled thinking to every interaction. The role involves helping shape the responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools within ER to improve workflows and service delivery while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate safeguards. You'll build scalable tools and frameworks that strengthen ER support across the company, translating recurring challenges into guidance, operating practices, and manager resources without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
Key responsibilities include acting as a sounding board and escalation partner for workplace culture concerns, collaborating cross-functionally with HRBPs, Legal, and leadership to ensure alignment on people decisions, and navigating ambiguity with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset. You'll use data and insight to identify trends and advise on systemic solutions that promote trust, engagement, and long-term cultural health.
Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of employee relations or People experience, ideally in high-growth, fast-paced, tech, research, or mission-driven environments. You have a non-conventional mindset, bringing creative, outside-the-box thinking to complex people issues. You've successfully managed high-tension, escalated employee situations with discretion, empathy, and calm under pressure. You excel at building trust quickly, communicating with warmth and clarity, and connecting with employees at all levels. You have a proven track record of designing and implementing scalable solutions—frameworks, tools, operating practices, or programs that improved how organizations handled recurring people challenges. Experience championing new technology, including AI-enabled tools, is valued.
The role reports to the senior manager of the team and operates within a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week. OpenAI offers relocation assistance to new employees.
