Datadog is seeking a Senior Developer Advocate focused on Data Observability to serve as a technical leader and mentor on the advocacy team. You will own projects end-to-end, facilitate collaboration across engineering and product teams, and enable Datadog's community of engineers to solve real-world data problems. Key responsibilities include: - Serve as a subject matter expert on data observability for the advocacy and engineering teams - Create multi-format content (demos, talks, blogs, documentation, webinars, open source, research) to establish Datadog as a leader in data engineering and observability - Coach internal product and customer engineering teams on effective public communication and presentations - Provide product feedback (bugs, feature suggestions) based on community and hands-on experience - Identify and pursue community-focused events and programs that build trust with practitioners You bring deep, hands-on experience in modern data engineering with depth in some areas and working familiarity across many. Ideal background includes production experience with distributed processing systems (Apache Spark, Databricks), analytics platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery), streaming systems (Kafka), data quality and lineage tools (dbt, OpenLineage), and programming languages commonly used in data systems (Python, Scala, Java, Go) with strong SQL skills. Required qualifications: - 10+ years as a software developer, data engineer, SRE, or similar practitioner building and maintaining production systems - 3+ years in advocacy, developer relations, or equivalent experience reaching technical audiences through writing, conference talks, workshops, webinars, videos, or open-source contributions - Publicly available writing samples, demos, repositories, or technical presentation recordings - Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure and container-based systems - Strong interest in self-directed learning and exploring new technologies Bonus: Experience supporting data pipelines for ML/AI systems and meaningful open-source contributions.
