Viam is a robotics engineering platform founded by Eliot Horowitz (co-founder and former CTO of MongoDB) that enables developers to configure, control, and manage robots intuitively. The ~100-person NYC-based company is seeking a Senior Developer Advocate to grow the developer community and drive platform activation.
In this hybrid role (3 days/week in NYC office), you'll be the technical face of Viam to developers. Your responsibilities include:
• Building creative robotics projects that demonstrate Viam's capabilities—from robot arms that sort objects to computer-vision systems and smart devices.
• Creating high-quality technical content: tutorials, videos, sample code, workshops, demos, and conference talks.
• Representing Viam at developer events—conferences, meetups, hackathons—through speaking, teaching, and hands-on collaboration.
• Growing engagement in Viam's Discord and developer communities while building your own credibility in relevant technical spaces.
• Experimenting with emerging technologies to identify timely opportunities for Viam to build, teach, or participate.
• Assembling, testing, and troubleshooting software and hardware for demos and projects.
• Bringing developer feedback to Product and Engineering teams, using engagement metrics to inform roadmap priorities.
You'll need strong software engineering fundamentals (Python, Go, C++, or TypeScript), hands-on experience with hardware/IoT/embedded systems or maker projects, and a proven track record creating technical content for developers. Prior professional robotics experience is not required, but you should be excited to work hands-on with physical systems. You'll be comfortable speaking publicly, appearing on video, traveling to events, and moving quickly in an experimental environment.
