Salary: USD 166,600 - 250,900 / annual
Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking, treasury, and financial workflow solutions for startups and technology companies. The company is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Risk team, which is responsible for detecting, monitoring, and mitigating fraud while ensuring customer safety and financial crime compliance.
In this role, you will build, validate, and deploy machine learning models to identify and prevent fraud in real time. You'll support model reproducibility through comprehensive documentation, testing, and monitoring. Key responsibilities include ensuring data quality across pipelines, collaborating with Risk Strategy on model inputs and applications, and working with Engineering to optimize deployment and observability.
You will work on critical business challenges at a pivotal growth moment, protecting customers and the broader financial system. The role requires balancing technical rigor with fast-paced execution in an environment with evolving priorities.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of experience analyzing large datasets with 3+ years of ML-specific work. Proficiency in SQL for data exploration and management of imperfect data. Strong Python skills with statistical modeling and machine learning expertise. Demonstrated experience deploying and monitoring ML models in production environments.
Ideal candidates also bring 1+ years of risk or fraud domain experience, familiarity with LLMs and GenAI applications in risk detection, experience with modern data tools (dbt, etc.), knowledge of model governance in regulated industries, and a track record of building zero-to-one solutions in ambiguous problem spaces.
