Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Customer Engineer to serve as the technical lynchpin for the Public Sector (SLED) sales organization. You will be responsible for pre-sales technical leadership and account-level technical strategy, working directly with government and public sector prospects and customers to educate, empower, and ensure their success on the Cloudflare platform.
In this role, you will drive technical discussions and implementations across the entire sales cycle—from qualification and requirements discovery through demonstrations, solution design, and proof-of-concept execution. You'll serve as the technical customer advocate within Cloudflare, collaborating closely with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Support teams. For existing customers, you'll be part of dedicated account teams providing technical best practices, implementation guidance, and strategic advice.
Key responsibilities include:
- Qualifying prospect and customer use cases and technical requirements
- Leading technical demonstrations and solution identification
- Designing and implementing proofs-of-concept
- Advising customers on technical best practices and Cloudflare product implementation
- Providing strategic guidance on long-term technology initiatives
- Attending customer meetings, conferences, and industry events (30-40% travel expected)
You bring a minimum of 5 years of customer-facing sales or consulting experience (not necessarily in tech). You have demonstrated understanding of internet technologies including OSI Model layers 1-7, routing, TCP/UDP, DNS, HTTP(S), and SSL/TLS. You're comfortable with on-premise infrastructure and networking configurations, including legacy systems. Above all, you're technically curious, passionate about staying current with industry trends, and excel at explaining complex concepts in accessible terms. You thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated by helping customers realize the full value of Cloudflare's platform.
