Redwood Materials, founded in 2017 by JB Straubel (co-founder and former CTO of Tesla), is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America. The company recovers, refines, and redeploys critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. Redwood is profitable and operates in a market projected to grow 20–50x over the next decade.
The Senior Construction Project Manager will join the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) team, playing a central role in building facilities that transform recycled materials into battery materials and implement second-life battery energy storage systems (BESS). This is a senior-level role with significant autonomy over large, complex construction scopes and includes mentorship and technical oversight of junior Project Engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead daily meetings with project subcontractors and crews to review production schedules, confirm material and equipment availability, and resolve complex cross-scope conflicts.
- Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, and material requirements to ensure quality and contract compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead development of project work plans and scheduling strategies; proactively identify and mitigate risks that could impact budget or schedule, driving corrective action plans.
- Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to track project performance accurately; document activities using company-approved methods and technologies.
- Notify team members and management of significant schedule changes and recommend solutions.
- Provide mentorship, training, and day-to-day technical guidance to Project Engineers and junior staff; review work products and support professional development.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, procurement/RFPs, and schedules for assigned scopes.
- Take complete ownership of construction scopes with sound independent judgment on schedule, cost, and risk trade-offs.
- Work directly with Construction Managers and Superintendents as a key advisor on complex, high-risk work.
- Collaborate with project management, infrastructure engineering, project controls, and procurement teams from preconstruction through production startup.
- Represent the project engineering function in leadership and owner-facing meetings as needed.
Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to Project Engineers and other junior team members.
- Construction engineering experience or knowledge required.
- Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent and/or higher-complexity construction scopes.
- Strong independent judgment and ownership mindset.
