Proxima Fusion, Europe's fastest-growing and best-funded fusion company, is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to lead global communications strategy and execution. As a spin-out from the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics, backed by over €650M, Proxima is developing next-generation stellarator fusion power plants (Alpha and Stellaris) to deliver commercial fusion energy. In this role, you will own the execution of Proxima's global communications workstream, translating company priorities into high-impact media engagement, executive positioning, and integrated campaigns. You'll serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries across Germany and internationally, building trusted relationships with journalists in business, technology, science, and political media. Your responsibilities include developing interview briefings, opinion pieces, and executive messaging that positions Proxima's leadership as a voice shaping the future of fusion and European technology innovation. You will lead strategic communications campaigns with clear narratives, audiences, channels, and measurable outcomes. This includes managing public relations for international conferences, sponsorships, exhibitions, and executive speaking engagements. You'll identify story angles and emerging communications opportunities that help Proxima lead conversations around fusion, industrial innovation, and Europe's energy future. The role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Finance, Public Policy, and Business Operations teams, as well as managing external agencies and specialist partners. Key responsibilities: day-to-day media engagement and relationship building; developing thought leadership content and executive positioning; translating complex technical and commercial topics into compelling narratives for investors, policymakers, and the public; identifying opportunities where strategic communications can shape public debate and advance commercial and policy objectives; and delivering integrated communications programs with consistently high standards. You bring 8+ years of corporate communications, media relations, or strategic communications experience, ideally across agencies and high-growth technology companies or startup-to-scale-up environments. You have native or fluent German with exceptional writing and communication skills in both German and English. You possess a strong network in German and international journalism, a track record of leading integrated campaigns, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Experience in deep tech, energy, political/policy communications, or investor relations is a plus.
