As a Senior CAD Engineer, you will lead the design and configuration of spacecraft and the documentation/processes that transfer designs to production. You'll develop and maintain design methods and best practices, perform spacecraft-level design tasks such as waveguide routing and panel configuration, and manage spacecraft bills of material and change orders in coordination with vehicle engineering, production, and supply chain teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing configuration of top-level spacecraft assemblies in CAD and creating/maintaining bills of material for production transfer
- Developing and documenting best practices for design across the team
- Teaching and mentoring other engineers in design and drawing best practices
- Managing programs and procedures governing CAD-to-PLM interactions
- Modeling and drawing components and systems, especially system-wide assemblies (waveguide routes, propulsion systems, harnessing)
- Checking engineering drawings for accuracy and compliance
- Assisting in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional team members
You'll need 5+ years of design experience with expertise in mechanical CAD, particularly SolidWorks. Strong knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, and PDM administration is essential. Experience designing and producing complex assemblies is required. Spacecraft design experience, familiarity with spaceflight components, vacuum-compatible systems, harness/waveguide routing, surface modeling, and Arena software are valuable bonuses. You must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with hands-on hardware development work.
