Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company focused on powering the world's transition to clean energy. The company engineers and manufactures breakthrough battery materials that significantly increase energy density while reducing size and weight, enabling smaller, more powerful batteries for consumer devices and electric vehicles.
As a Senior Battery Engineer on the Battery Engineering team, you will be an integral part of developing the next generation of lithium-ion batteries for industrial devices. This is a hands-on, technical role requiring deep expertise in battery chemistry and cell design.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute comprehensive experiments in pouch full cells across slurry & coating, electrolyte optimization, cell design and integration, and electrochemical test methods
- Perform thorough failure analysis in small pouch full and prototype cells to identify root causes
- Apply advanced data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling techniques to interpret test results and inform design iterations
- Communicate ideas, plans, and results to internal stakeholders and support customer-facing data packages
- Accelerate learning cycles by developing new techniques or test methods to detect downstream challenges early
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams internally and with external customers as needed
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in engineering or science with 4+ years of experience in batteries or related field (fewer years acceptable with advanced degree)
- Strong technical background with lithium-ion batteries including process steps: slurry, coating, cell design, and cell teardown
- Well-organized, data-driven approach to problem-solving and experimental design
- Proficiency with databases and data analysis tools (JMP, Python, etc.)
- Exceptional communication abilities with internal groups and external customers
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Understanding of lab safety best practices
