OpenFX is building infrastructure for next-generation cross-border payment systems for institutions. The company is backed by Accel, Lightspeed, and NfX, with a team drawn from JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, FalconX, PayPal, Affirm, Polygon, Kraken, and Nium.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for the Hedging team, which owns risk management, inventory and exposure management, hedging positions across venues, market making, and PnL/net revenue calculation. You will not manage headcount or conduct performance reviews. Instead, you own technical direction, quality standards, and execution coherence of the team's work—the Risk Management Engine, Smart Hedging, and the position and PnL layer.
You will work closely with an Engineering Manager: they own people, process, and delivery; you own design, quality, and day-to-day technical decisions. You are expected to write code and lead through design, review, and judgment, with credibility earned through building.
Key responsibilities include owning technical direction of exposure keeping, hedge decisioning, venue routing, and cost/PnL calculation; leading design discussions and breaking ambiguous efforts into executable workstreams; mentoring engineers at all levels; reviewing work to high standards; owning the quality bar for shipped code; keeping tech debt visible and shrinking; taking end-to-end accountability for roadmap execution; driving work to closure with Product, Operations, and Finance; and owning the risk path in production including incident response.
Must-haves: 6–8 years building and operating production backend systems with time as technical lead of a team or workstream; a trading background (exchange, brokerage, or trading platform like CoinDCX, Groww, CoinSwitch Kuber); technical depth across full system scope; strong system design and OOP skills; solid production engineering instincts (observability, debugging, performance tuning, 24/7 incident response); ability to drive technical decisions through influence; comfort with abstract, ambiguous problems; hands-on, high-agency approach; proficiency with AI coding tools; data-driven mindset and clear written communication for async-heavy, globally distributed environment.
What helps: experience with hedging, exposure, or risk management systems; experience with multi-venue systems.
