The Insurance Expert (Senior Actuary) role sits at the heart of Alan's mission, working within the insurance team to design and price health insurance products, monitor portfolio risks, and provide insurance expertise across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and price insurance offers for health, hospitalization, group insurance, disability, and dental products
- Monitor business performance and manage portfolio risks as the company scales
- Help cross-functional teams (data scientists, engineers, product managers, designers) understand healthcare and insurance subtleties
- Build winning products and pricing strategies to unlock new customer segments
- Bring insurance expertise to support sales efforts with large customers and public institutions
- Enter new segments (e.g., public sector) to drive growth in Belgium
- Enhance portfolio monitoring and compliance as complexity increases
- Strengthen relationships with regulatory bodies
- Collaborate with engineers to build tools for tailored, scalable insurance offerings
- Contribute to the global insurance community, supporting hiring and training across multiple countries
You will work hand-in-hand with product, engineering, data science, and design teams to deliver differentiated products at fair prices, while managing capital, reinsurance strategy, and regulatory relationships.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in the insurance sector with meaningful exposure to health insurance products (hospitalization, group insurance, disability, or dental)
- Fluent in English and Dutch (French is a plus)
- Scientific background in actuarial sciences, statistics, mathematics, or data science, combined with practical insurance experience (product, pricing, regulatory, or analytics)
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; ability to translate complex data, business, and legal questions into actionable outputs
- Builder mindset: continuously identify opportunities to improve and scale processes and systems
- Commitment to transforming the insurance and healthcare industry and challenging the status quo
- Clear, structured, and concise communication (written and spoken)
