SmartBiz Bank, a community-focused business banking platform serving small businesses across the U.S., is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance team in Northbrook, Illinois. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, you will be responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the bank's financial records while supporting timely and accurate internal and external financial reporting. Key responsibilities include: Financial Close & Accounting Operations: Prepare and record journal entries in accordance with GAAP and bank accounting policies. Assist with month-end and quarter-end close processes within established deadlines. Reconcile all bank general ledger accounts (Fiserv System) and holding company general ledger accounts (QuickBooks), ensuring all balances are fully supported. Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies through research and collaboration with deposit and lending operations teams. Manage accounts payable and employee expense reimbursement functions. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management and the Board of Directors, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance. File all regulatory reports, including Quarterly Call Reports and holding company reports. Tax Reporting and Audits: Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for external and internal audits. Coordinate and support the Controller in working with external auditors and tax advisors. Internal Controls: Maintain established internal controls to safeguard assets. You will also support the Controller and CEO/CFO in the bank's budget process and other financial analysis projects. Required qualifications: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with several years in an accounting role at a small to medium-sized community bank. Experience with general ledger and financial reporting systems. Strong working knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting, including call reports. Solid business judgment and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent). This position requires full-time, in-office presence (5 days per week) in Northbrook, Illinois.
