Sunset is a rapidly scaling B2B SaaS company (multi-eight-figure run rate in months) that helps businesses unlock value from proprietary data by transforming internal enterprise data into de-identified datasets for frontier AI labs. The company has raised from top-tier investors including Floodgate and Afore.
You will lead security across the entire company as a hands-on individual contributor. This is not a management role—you will write code, review architecture, test systems, and lead incidents while owning the company-wide security program. Your scope includes product and cloud systems security, enterprise data acquisition and delivery, employee and contractor access controls, vendor management, AI tool authority, and incident readiness.
Key responsibilities include: establishing Sunset's security program and prioritized roadmap; threat-modeling products, data pipelines, AI workflows, cloud infrastructure, workforce operations, and human-operational workflows; building and improving controls for identity, authorization, tenancy, sensitive data handling, credentials, logging, and secure execution; defining workforce-security requirements for accounts, endpoints, onboarding/offboarding, contractors, and vendors; securing identity verification, approvals, and segregation of duties in dissolution operations; finding vulnerabilities through code review, architecture review, testing, and production investigation; leading the security side of incidents and exercises; creating secure defaults and tooling that enable product and ML teams to move independently; maintaining the security control framework and evidence for customer reviews and SOC 2 compliance; and collaborating with leadership on risk acceptance and with legal/compliance partners on cross-functional decisions.
Success means Sunset's most consequential security risks are visible, owned, and being reduced in deliberate order, and at least one high-risk technical or human-operational boundary is materially safer because of a control you designed and implemented. You will use AI tools deeply for security analysis and engineering while treating generated findings as evidence to verify.
