Sofar Ocean seeks a Science Engagement Lead to bridge ocean science and storytelling, creating compelling narratives that resonate globally across digital and live platforms. This role combines creative content development with strategic brand activation, requiring someone who can translate complex climate and ocean data into engaging stories for YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other channels.
Key responsibilities include developing original, science-driven content concepts and collaborating with internal scientists, engineers, and designers to bring them to life with visual storytelling and scientific accuracy. You will identify and evaluate high-impact global conferences, summits, and events for Sofar's participation, write and submit speaking proposals, and partner with marketing and design teams to define messaging and creative direction for event presences including booth design and visual experiences.
Additionally, you will research and submit to global innovation, sustainability, and ocean-focused awards, crafting compelling submissions that connect Sofar's science to measurable impact. You'll develop integrated campaigns around key moments—launches, award wins, or major environmental observances—and review performance metrics across channels to understand audience resonance and inform future storytelling direction.
The ideal candidate has a background in science, environmental studies, or communications with strong creative instincts and proven experience developing multimedia content (video, written, or visual) that bridges science and storytelling. You should be comfortable leading production or creating content yourself—writing scripts, shaping campaigns, or hosting. Strong attention to detail, commitment to scientific accuracy, and strategic thinking with curiosity for metrics are essential. Experience working with design and production partners is required. Nice-to-have skills include comfort with data visualization tools and experience with environmental geospatial data.
Sofar operates at the intersection of ocean science, climate, and technology. The company is a hands-on team building hardware and software that operates in the real world, requiring most team members to be in office at least 70% of the time. Sofar sponsors visas and retains an immigration lawyer to support the process.
