Salary: USD 80,000 - 85,000 / annual
EC Electric is seeking a Sales & Property Tax Accountant to manage a comprehensive portfolio of tax compliance, licensing, and fixed asset responsibilities. This is a deadline-driven role requiring meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales and Use Tax: Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states. Perform reconciliations, journal entries, adjustments, and reporting. Review invoices and tax certificates, maintain resale certificates, and monitor changing tax laws and economic nexus thresholds. Update multistate tax rates and system codes. Ensure tax compliance for all existing states and coordinate setup of new ones. Provide training and customer service to other departments.
Property Tax: Manage the annual property tax process by gathering and reviewing asset information, coordinating with departments for accurate reporting, and preparing and filing property tax returns by required deadlines. Conduct monthly reviews of purchase activity to identify personal property additions and maintain compliance with reporting requirements.
Business Licenses: Manage business license compliance by filing and renewing licenses in a timely manner. Monitor city, county, and state licensing requirements and deadlines. Collect and validate data needed for license filings and maintain accurate licensing records. Coordinate activation and deactivation of licenses as business operations change.
Unclaimed Property: Assist in collection and review of unclaimed property data. Prepare and submit annual unclaimed property filings in accordance with state requirements. Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for compliance and audit readiness.
General Ledger and Audit Support: Prepare journal entries and monthly general ledger account reconciliations. Assist with audit preparation by gathering supporting documentation, compiling schedules, and providing requested records to internal and external auditors.
Other Duties: Perform assigned accounting and administrative projects. Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls. Maintain current procedures, documentation, and training materials.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience with focus on sales and use tax compliance, multistate tax filings, and tax reporting
- Strong knowledge of sales and use tax regulations, economic nexus requirements, resale certificates, and state tax compliance
- Experience managing property tax filings, fixed asset records, asset reporting, and annual tax return preparation
- Proven ability to administer and maintain business licenses, registrations, and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Familiarity with audit support, including preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to auditor requests
- High attention to detail with ability to manage multiple deadlines in fast-paced environment while identifying process improvements and strengthening internal controls
Preferred Technical Skills:
- ERP/accounting software experience (ViewPoint, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting
- Experience with unclaimed property reporting and compliance requirements
