Sustainment is an AI-native software platform helping US manufacturers connect with critical suppliers and manage supply chains. The company serves both DoD and commercial customers with a dual-use technology platform focused on reimagining American manufacturing as a hyperconnected, secure, and resilient ecosystem.
You will be Sustainment's first Sales Engineer, responsible for building the sales engineering function from the ground up. This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you'll be the technical partner on every deal, serving as the product expert, demo builder, and process translator for prospects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mastering the product deeply and staying curious about its capabilities and roadmap potential
- Building custom, scenario-based demos tailored to each prospect's actual business situation
- Maintaining and evolving the demo environment in partnership with Product and Engineering
- Leading technical discovery, handling objections, and winning conversations with IT and technical stakeholders
- Conducting on-site workshops with prospect teams (buyers, engineers, IT) to show hands-on Sustainment workflows
- Partnering with Account Executives from first call through signature, providing technical storytelling that connects product capabilities to business impact
- Serving as a force multiplier for the revenue team by sharpening AE and BDR product fluency and helping Marketing build scalable technical content
- Feeding field intelligence back to Product and Engineering to inform roadmap decisions
- Collaborating with the Technical Success Manager to align demos and narratives with prospect buying processes and future-state designs
You'll have direct access to Product and Engineering leadership, and your input will directly influence what gets built. This role offers the opportunity to define an emerging category, build a foundational function as the company scales, and work on supply chain resilience that matters to American manufacturing.
Requirements:
- 5+ years in Sales Engineering, solutions consulting, or similar technical pre-sales roles
- Real exposure to ERP integrations (scoping, validating, or implementing); any ERP counts, SAP is a bonus
- Understanding of technical requirements and their build costs: API vs. flat file, on-prem vs. cloud, middleware ownership, IT access considerations
- Ability to walk through a prospect's current process and translate it to how they'd work in Sustainment, in their language
- Track record of winning technical decisions in complex B2B deals with multiple stakeholders, including IT
- Demonstrated passion for teaching and making those around you better
- Excitement about being the only SE in the building and shaping growth strategy, team design, and GTM
Bonus qualifications:
- SAP or other ERP experience
- Procurement, RFQ, or supply chain workflow knowledge
- Experience selling into or implementing in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Experience as an early or founding technical hire at a Series A/B company
