Sphere is building AI-powered trade compliance infrastructure that automates global trade law interpretation and compliance determinations across 190+ jurisdictions. Backed by a16z and YC with $21M Series A funding, the company is growing 30%+ month-over-month with customers including ElevenLabs, Replit, Deel, Runway, and Lovable.
As a Sales Development Representative, you'll build Sphere's outbound sales engine from the ground up. Working directly with Account Executives and the Founder, you'll identify target companies, research their business models and global footprint, and create pipeline with CFOs, Controllers, Tax leaders, and senior finance executives. This role is explicitly designed as a path into an Account Executive position—you'll get exposure to the full sales cycle from day one, including discovery, demos, deal strategy, negotiation, and closing.
Key responsibilities include building and owning targeted account lists across core markets, prospecting via phone, email, LinkedIn, and events, researching companies to understand why Sphere matters to them, working with AEs on account strategy and multithreading, learning to qualify real business problems, and experimenting constantly with messaging, targeting, and outbound approaches. You'll help build the outbound playbook that future SDRs will inherit, taking on increasing ownership as you develop.
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator comfortable starting conversations with senior executives, competitive and curious, willing to put in the reps, and eager to learn quickly. You should take ownership rather than wait for instructions, thrive in ambiguity, and believe both speed and accuracy are possible. Previous SDR or outbound sales experience is helpful but not required; the company values trajectory over pedigree. Experience at early-stage startups, selling to Finance/Accounting/Tax teams, or a track record of excellence in competitive domains (sales, athletics, academics, entrepreneurship) is a plus.
This is a five-days-in-office role in San Francisco. The team is small with global surface area—everyone owns a domain that would be a full team at a larger company. This won't be a fit if you need heavy structure, prefer managing people over owning hard problems, or view in-office collaboration as a cost rather than a feature.
